8 Spode and Copeland Fish Pattern Plates (Circa 1884)
8 plates that are 8 ½” diameter with fish pattern (green)
Some gold guilding is worn on edges. No chips or cracks.
From Laura Clarke – Archives for Stoke-on-Trent City Archives about Spode Ceramics: “With plates, I have worked out that the date cypher for the registration (patent), the diamond shaped impressed mark is November 8th, 1883. The date marker, A over 84, is April 1884 and the impressed back stamp confirms this by being in use c. 1860-95. With regards to pattern, I have not been able to identify it as there is no obvious pattern number or mark relating to a pattern that I can make out in photos. There is possible a mark under the B in the impressed Copeland back stamp, but I can’t decipher it from photographs. “
